Phase 2 offsite activities will give you a chance to head off on a half or full day tour to see some of the best activities and local sights. There will also be free activities on site for you to enjoy at your own pace.

Making your choices
There’s over 30 activities that you can choose from that are free or only a few hundred dollars. To select your preferences:
Check it out as soon as you can, and book in your choices - there are plenty of options to suit all budgets. Planning now means you are all set to go when you arrive at Venture.
Spaces are limited for some activities and may fill up fast, so get your choices in ASAP!
Please note, some activities are dependent on minimum numbers and may not go ahead. Some swapping of activities may be able to be done at Venture (for activities that don’t require waivers), however refunds will not be given, so choose carefully. We will also accept debit and credit cards at our site, so you won’t have to carry extra cash.

1 Activities in and around Whangarei. We recommend choosing two of these activities on the same day. You are able to select Town Explorer twice on the same day to have a full day in Whangarei.
2 Both of these are beach based activities held at Te Arai Point. You may select both for a full day at the beach or select Sun and Sand for the morning and afternoon.
3 Phase 1 Expeditions (Pick n Mix, To the Limit and Amazing Race) may have done some of the activities during Phase 1. Please check with your Expedition Leader.
4 If you were on Pedal Power during Phase 1, you may not want to do Adventure Forest unless you want to do this activity twice.
5 Phase 1 Expeditions (Surf School or Sun, Surf and Sand) will have had a surf lessons so don’t select Surfs Up unless you want to increase your skills even further.
1. Town Explorer
Discover Whangarei, take part in the free activities on offer, go shopping or get supplies and special items for the themed evening activities. Free activities in and around Whangarei include Quarry Gardens, Town Basin, AH Reed Kauri Park, Whangarei Falls, Abbey Caves, and Hatea Loop Track. It’s an hour from site into Whangarei. We recommend choosing another half day activity in Whangarei on the same day.
2. The Lake
Learn to sail, pop some shots on the rifle range and drive around the paddocks in a car - a little off road experience.
3. Waipu Caves
This is the largest cave passage in Northland. Bones of bats, birds, amphibians and reptiles may be found along with the remains of fossil invertebrates. View a galaxy of glow worms and top your adventure off with abseiling the rockface around the caves.
4. Sun and Sand
You must visit the amazing white sand beaches while you are in Northland. Chill on the beach, or play a game of cricket or volleyball, swim, body surf - whatever takes your fancy. Take plenty of sun block!
Take in the magic of Northland. The beaches, the rugged coastline, the cliffs and the hills - you get it all on our one day hike. Escape the hustle and bustle and have a day to recharge.
6. Ten Pin/Laser
Set in an indoor maze with music and special effect lighting, track other players using stealth, cunning, strategy and skill. Then team up with your mates for a little more friendly competitiveness on the bowling lanes. We recommend choosing Town Explorer as well to give you a full day in Whangarei.
Test your skills on Northland’s largest inflatable water obstacle course. Then hit the waterslide or chill on the paddle boards, or play human foosball.
8. Flip Out
Remember your backyard trampoline? Imagine going to a trampoline adventure park! We recommend choosing Town Explorer as well to give you a full day in Whangarei.
9. Kauri Museum
A blast from the past. Explore exhibits and the rich history of Kauri and the gum industry. Visit a working sawmill, the 1900’s Kauri house, and the world’s largest gum collection.
10. Mountain Biking
Get your adrenaline pumping by visiting this park which offers multiple disciplines and areas to ride with trails for XC, freeride, DH and a hand built pump track. Grade 3 to 5 tracks will offer challenges at all levels from first timers to the experts.
Snorkel the pristine waters of Goat Island, New Zealand's first marine reserve. The warm shallow waters are teeming with fish and other marine life.
Had enough of being Mr Nice Guy? Take it out at paintball. Challenge, teamwork, strategy, accuracy and the ability to not bruise too easily.
13. Adventure Forest
Twelve circuits, thirty ziplines, and hundreds of challenges. Up for a challenge and a bit of team building? No matter your courage level, there is a circuit for you. We recommend choosing Town Explorer as well to give you a full day in Whangarei.
14. The Tree Tour
How many people do you know that have been on a tree tour? Check out the Lord of the Trees, Tane Mahuta at 51m tall, and see one of the largest Moreton Bay Fig Trees in the world. A laid back tour with some magnificent scenery. Also included is a visit to the Kauri Museum.
15. Surf’s Up
Learn how to surf at one of the best surf beaches in New Zealand. Team this up with Sun and Sand for a full day at the beach.
16. KT and Mission Bay
When you visit this this underwater aquarium, you can also take a trip to Antarctica, see a replica of Scott’s hut, and explore the shark tunnels. Then go to Mission Bay - a beautiful Pohutukawa-lined beach close to the central city. Enjoy the parks, get active or simply relax and explore the surrounds.
17. Kawau Island
Escape for a day to beautiful Kawau Island, home to a pristine wildlife reserve surrounded by the clear waters of the Hauraki Gulf. Look out for dolphins, penguins and whales, and once ashore, an array of native birds, peacocks and wallabies in the subtropical gardens. Explore the historic Mission House, ancient Maori Pa sites and the ruins of a seashore copper mine once worked by early settlers. Then head down to the beach for some snorkelling in the crystal clear waters.
18. Snow Planet 1
A full day of skiing or snowboarding in New Zealand’s only indoor snow dome. Hire of skis, boots or board included. Lessons not included. Warm clothing available for hire at extra cost, or bring your own.
19. Trial Flights
Have you ever wanted to fly your own plane? You can spend 45 minutes in the air with an instructor.
Unfortunately we can't offer this option to Australian Contingent members - sorry! :(
20. BOI 1
Look out for dolphins on your way to the famous Hole in the Rock. Then try out the flying trapeze and high wire, the world's highest inflatable slide, tarzan swings, climbing wall, mini golf and more at Action World.
21. ECO 1
Swim with dolphins (providing conditions are favourable) in their natural environment. Then visit the most historically significant site in New Zealand - the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and the Te Kongahu Museum of Waitangi.
22. ECO 2
Swim with dolphins (providing conditions are favourable) in their natural environment. Then try out the flying trapeze and high wire, the world's highest inflatable slide, tarzan swings, climbing wall, mini golf and more at Action World.
Spend a relaxing day on the water.You can also swim or snorkel. Your tour will be decided on the day based on the most favourable place to go depending on weather conditions. The most likely options will be Tutakaka; Hidden Coast Tour or Wharewa Bay Tour, or Whangarei Heads; Smugglers Cove or Peach Cove Tour. 24. Snow Planet 2
A full day of skiing or snowboarding in New Zealand’s only indoor snow dome. This option includes a lesson, which is highly recommended if you have never boarded or skied before. Hire of skis, boots or board included. Warm clothing available for hire at extra cost, or bring your own.
25. Horse Riding
Ride along beautiful Pakari Beach, though native bush and over farmland with magnificent sea views to the islands. 100kg weight limit applies.
26. Perfect Day
All day-trip to the Poor Knights Islands, with sightseeing, kayaking, cave explorations, snorkelling, and swimming. Keep an eye out for whales, dolphins, and orca. The boat is well fitted-out, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, upstairs viewing, and the ‘fish cam’ live streams what’s happening underwater.
27. BOI 2
Look out for dolphins on your way to the famous Hole in the Rock. Then experience the thrill of parasailing on NZ’s highest and longest parasail flight. Soar in the sky at 1,200 feet for your special bird’s eye view of the Bay of Islands.
28. Limit Pusher
Take a walk on the wild side on the Skywalk at the top of New Zealand’s tallest building. With no handrails to separate you from the 192m drop, you’ll do some adrenaline-fuelled challenges which will get your heart racing while you take in the epic 360-degree views of the City of Sails. For the ultimate day, team this up with a bungy jump from the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
29. Life at the Top
See the Auckland Harbour Bridge up close - a two hour climb to the very top. Then it’s the ultimate leap of faith – a jump from NZ’s highest building with just a wire, 192m down! SkyJump gives you 11 seconds of pure adrenaline as you plunge 53 floors down at a speed of 85 kph.
Ready to throw yourself out of a perfectly good plane at 9,000ft? Or pay extra and do the highest tandem skydive in New Zealand’s North Island, where you can jump from a thrilling 16,500ft.
31. Leaders Only - Matakana Escape
Limited places. Join fellow leaders on a day trip to Matakana. At this village nestled in wine country, you can enjoy some retail therapy, a leisurely coffee, a tour of the Morris and James Pottery factory, wander the Sculpture gardens, take a trip to the Reptile Park or the Marine Discovery Centre, and wrap it up with a relaxing lunch - the choice is yours. Activities incurring a fee will be on a user pays basis. Lunch is included.
